Brussels by bike

About this tour

There is more to Brussels than the hyper center: cycling is the ideal way to discover it – on your own or on a rented bicycle. I would suggest starting on avenue de Tervuren to have a look at the “Stoclet Palace”, one out of five Unesco houses of Brussels (Joseph Hoffman designed this one, the four others by Victor Horta), and then the Cauchie house (Jugendstil) and the Cinquantenaire Parc with our very own Arc de Triomphe, but this one was privately paid for by King Leopold II (this will need some further explanation…).

On our way to the neighbourhood of the squares with its stunning architecture (Saint Cyr, Van Eetvelde) we will not miss the Horta pavilion and Place Schuman where the European Commission and Counsel are situated. Through “Parc Leopold”, once a zoo but also the meeting place for Nobel prize winners (the Solvay conferences) … we will pass the European Parliament, the Grand Place, Saint Géry, Sainte Catherine, the Marolls, the Palace of Justice, avenue Louise with the Horta houses, the abbey of La Cambre (and one of the best-kept secrets of the city), Flagey (art déco at its best) to get back to our starting place. Of course, we will have plenty of time to rest, to drink, to eat if you feel like it.
